With the 2009-2010 NHL (National Hockey League) regular season beginning tonight and Stikky Media being located in Canada, hockey is all the buzz today. It’s a fresh new season and everyone has big plans for their club. I thought a hockey post with a Social Media twist would suit todays mood. Businesses and teenagers are not the only people embracing the Social Revolution. You can find your favorite hockey players on Twitter, Facebook, Team and Personal Blogs, and all over the internet. And you can find every team on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and pretty much anywhere else you can imagine on the internet.

NHL Hockey Players on Twitter

Some Twitter accounts may be fake, like my personal favorite @brianburke. Such gems as "Just ran into Kyle Wellwood arriving at the ACC. He seemed kind of depressed. Told him to keep his chins up." had the account at over 2,000 followers before the owner decided to call it quits.

Here are some verified accounts of some NHL players that are using Twitter:

Martin Havlat, Minnesota Wild

@martinhavlat, 12974 followers

Martin Havlat signed a multi-million dollar contract with Minnesota this off-season and with a new offensive coach the team promises to be better, or at least more exciting, than in past years under Jacques Lemaire.

Patrick Elias, New Jersey Devils

@pelias, 5735 followers

While Elias has had some injury problems in recent seasons he has still managed to put up big numbers when healthy and his Devils are contenders every season. With an aging Marty Brodeur and Patrick’s health issues this may be one of their last great chances to win the Cup (would be number 3 for Elias) before Zach Parise takes the reigns.

Dan Boyle, San Jose Sharks

@danboyle22, 3230 followers

Dan Boyle’s San Jose Sharks are picked as a lock to make the Conference Finals nearly ever year, yet they seem to make a quick exit when playoff time finally comes around. With the addition of Dany Heatley and veteran Rob Blake taking over captain duties the Sharks have as good a chance as any to take it all this season.

David Perron, St. Louis Blues

@DP_57, 1586 followers

David Perron enjoyed his most successful season yet in 2008-2009 and is set to play alongside Andy McDonald and David Backes again this year on a young, speedy, and tough St. Louis Blues team that is giving Blues fans something to be excited about for the first time in a few years.

Alexander Ovechkin, Washington Capitals

@ovi8, 23630 followers

Ovechkin, the leagues most exciting and explosive scoring threat has the largest following of all the NHL players using Twitter. Ovechkin has never had a season under 100 points and all signs lead to him having another 50-goal 100-point season in 2009-2010, the only question is can he finally bring the Stanley Cup to Washington, DC?

NHL Hockey Player Blogs and Official Websites

The following NHL players have personal blogs and official websites:

Martin Brodeur, New Jersey Devils

Brodeur had a short season due to injury and a first round exit in last years Stanley Cup playoffs. Most likely the starting goaltender of Team Canada’s 2010 Olympic Team, look for Marty to bounce back this year.

Chris Pronger, Philidelphia Flyers

Pronger signed a long-term contract with the Philidelphia Flyers in their off-season bid to re-dub themselves as the Broadstreet Bullies. The Flyers will certainly make the playoffs and many have them picked to win the Stanley Cup this season with a young, strong, fiesty group of forwards it seems Pronger was the missing piece of the puzzle. If goaltender Ray Emery can manage to stay in the league without incident look for the Flyers to do big things this season.

Henrik Zetterberg, Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings, as usual, are among this years favorites. Zetterberg and fellow Red Wing Pavel Datsyuk have been nothing short of amazing both offensively and defensively over the last many years and neither of them show any signs of slowing down any time soon.
