Upload

To upload something to the internet refers to taking something that "lives" on your computer and duplicating it and transferring it to the internet. For example, if you make a document in Microsoft Word and save it to your computer, the document is only visible to users of your computer since that's where the document "lives." However, if you want to post the document on the internet so that other people from anywhere in the world can look at it (according to your specifications), the process of duplicating and moving it is called uploading.
